Forth Ports Leith is Scotland’s largest enclosed deep-water port with the capability of handling vessels up to 50,000 deadweight tonnes. Located to the north east of Edinburgh, less than 3 miles from the city centre, the port has access to Scotland’s road and rail networks and is well positioned for all North Sea shipping activities.

Focussing on a range of cargo types, Leith has forged long-term relationships with customers ensuring that their needs are met for the reception and onward delivery of cargoes such as grain, animal feed, steel pipes and recycled products, ensuring that industries such as food production, oil and gas, and agriculture continue to operate and thrive.

From vessel navigation, through our state-of-the-art lock entrance using our own river pilots and tug fleet, to vessel loading and unloading utilising our quayside cranes, hydraulic material handlers, or specialist equipment such as the Siwertel bulk cement discharger; Leith provides a range of services to handle all types of cargo. If you’re looking to move a heavier item, we have crane hire firms locally who can provide equipment for heavy lifts.

All cargo handling services are managed by our highly experienced team with our in-house workforce of stevedores, supported by our specialist marine, health and safety and engineering departments. Facilities, infrastructure and multimodal connections are key to the success of a port and Leith is proud to offer:
