Environment & Sustainability
Forth Ports is committed to sustainable development, recognising the social, economic, and environmental value of the land and estuaries it manages. The company continually reviews its operations to minimise environmental impact and enhance efficiency, supporting UK and Scottish Government goals to reduce emissions and combat climate change while remaining a vital part of the global supply chain.
Environmental risks and performance are managed through robust systems, with many operations, including the Port of Tilbury and London Container Terminal, holding the ISO14001 environmental management standard. The company also focuses on energy efficiency and renewable energy generation, achieving the ISO50001 Energy Management Standard.
Forth Ports’ locations are near conservation sites, coexisting with local species. Statutory duties include preparing and updating oil spill and emergency plans and maintaining safe navigation. The company strives to reduce landfill waste and was proud to be named a sector leader in its first GRESB assessment in 2017.
As a responsible business, Forth Ports actively participates in industry bodies and committees, such as the UK Major Ports Group and British Ports Association, particularly their Environment and Sustainability Group and the Scottish Ports Environment Group.
