TOUGH MUDDER TEAM FROM FORTH PORTS RAISE IMPRESSIVE £25,000 FOR MAGGIE’S CENTRES
A team of 30 tough mudders from Forth Ports in Scotland have raised an incredible £25,000 for Maggie’s Centre in Dundee, Kirkcaldy, Edinburgh and Larbert.
In June this year, the team took part in the gruelling Tough Mudder challenge in Dumfries & Galloway which was a 12 mile course of mud and obstacles, designed to test their mental grit, camaraderie and physical fitness. The team trained hard before the challenge and although the course was very demanding, everyone completed the course.
The team’s incredible fundraising efforts via their friends, family and business connections was matched by Forth Ports to raise a final total of £25,063.26 for Maggie’s Centres. The team gave careful consideration to the selection of the charity and given that Maggie’s operate centres close to their Scottish operations, the team felt that this was a great charity to support.
Maggie’s Centres provide free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their families and friends across Scotland. Built in the grounds of NHS cancer hospitals, the centres are places with professional staff on hand to offer the support people need. As a charity Maggie’s can only provide cancer support free of charge thanks to the generosity of their supporters.
Some of the tough mudders who took part in the challenge presented the cheque to some of the Maggie’s Centre team (see pic).
Stuart Wallace, Chief Operation Officer of Forth Ports Limited who took part in the event said: “Maggie’s Centres are such important places for people and their families on a cancer journey. The whole team at Forth Ports are huge admirers of their work and we wanted to do something meaningful to support them as they rely heavily on fund raising to provide their services.
“We are thrilled that we raised so much for Maggie’s and on behalf of all the team, I want to thank everyone who donated money for our challenge and to Forth Ports for generously matching every penny we raised. I could not have imaged that we would raise over £25k! A huge well done to all of the team members who raised this money and who all so courageously took part with enthusiasm and energy.”
Fundraising Organiser from Maggie’s Centres, Gayle Cobain said “We can’t thank Forth Ports and their staff enough for their commitment to Maggie’s. Not only have they raised an incredible amount of money for our Centres but they have helped us to raise awareness of Maggie’s in the local area.”
